Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park provides many high elevation birding experiences. When I think of Yosemite, I think of the breeding Great Grey Owls and introduced White-tailed Ptarmigan, but many species are visible in this large park. Species like Mountain Quail, Blue Grouse, and Pileated Woodpecker should be viewed relatively easily in the appropriate habitat.
Directions: From the west take Highway 120 from Manteca, or Highway 140 from Merced and follow the signs until you enter the park. Expect about a 2.5 hour drive from Manteca. From the east, Highway 120 enters the park from the Mono Lake/Lee Vining area.
